Imperial County, California — August 17, 2012
Police say an offender was killed Friday when he was hit by a vehicle while on work detail in the El Centro area.
According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Richard Warrick, 45, was a convict serving out his sentence at Calipatria State Prison, located at 7018 Blair Road. Mr. Warrick was part of a work crew assigned duty alongside Interstate 8.
At an unknown hour, a motorist approached the scene. Investigators say the vehicle left the roadway, striking Mr. Warrick and another offender. Paramedics transported Mr. Warrick to a nearby hospital for treatment. The second victim suffered fatal injuries, although it is unclear whether he died on scene or at a nearby hospital.
