San Bernardino County, California — August 20, 2012
Police say a law-enforcement officer was injured Monday during a motorcycle accident in the Fontana area.
According to officers with the Fontana Police Department, an unidentified motorist was behind the wheel of a vehicle as it traveled west along Upland Avenue. As the driver approached Nuevo Avenue, around 7:40 a.m., he made a left turn and crossed into the path of an eastbound motorcycle.
The rider, a Fontana police officer, was unable to avoid a collision and was transported to a nearby hospital. Neither party has been identified by name.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were 4,778 fatalities as a result of collisions involving motorcycles in the United States in 2006.
