San Diego County, California — August 11, 2012
Police say a motorcyclist died Saturday when his motorcycle made contact with another vehicle on a San Diego freeway.
According to officers with the San Diego Police Department, a male rider from Oceanside was headed south along Interstate 5 on his motorcycle. As the biker approached Exit 13B (28th Street), around 9:25 p.m., he apparently lost control.
The bike swerved into the back of another vehicle. Paramedics transported him to the University of California-San Diego Medical Center for treatment. Although his name has not yet been released, the victim was a member of the United States Marine Corps.
The condition and identity of the other driver have not been released. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were 4,778 fatalities as a result of collisions involving motorcycles in the United States in 2006.
