Police say a pedestrian died Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle at a highway junction in the Mt. Hope area of San Diego.

According to troopers with the California Highway Patrol, an unidentified motorist was behind the wheel of a vehicle as it traveled west along California State Route 94 (Exit 3). As the driver approached the transition road to California State Route 15, around 8:45 p.m., the car hit a pedestrian.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save the pedestrian. He has been identified only as a transient male.
