Sacramento, California – July 19, 2012

Thursday, around 3 p.m., a crash between a semi truck carrying cars and a smaller vehicle occurred on Interstate 5.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol have not released many details surrounding the crash. It is unknown if any injuries occurred at this time, and the type of vehicle involved has not been released either.

If there were any victims in this crash, they have yet to be named.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
