Police say a bicyclist suffered head trauma Saturday when he was hit by a vehicle in the Oxnard area.
According to officers with the Oxnard Police Department, Oxnard resident Kris Helms, 36, was behind the wheel of a vehicle as it traveled northbound along Victoria Avenue. As Mr. Helms approached the corner with Via Marina, around 7 p.m., he struck the bicycle, ridden by 55-year-old Oxnard resident Robert Escobar, from behind.
Paramedics transported Mr. Escobar to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries. Officers at the scene detected impairment on the part of Mr. Helms and he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
