Fresno, California – July 11, 2012

Wednesday morning around 2 a.m., a 24-year-old female construction worker from Reedley was killed in a hit-and-run accident on California State Route 99. The accident happened on the off-ramp for Clinton Avenue on the northbound side of the road. The worker was in an area of road that had been closed off with reflective cones.

Officials from the California Highway Patrol say that the vehicle entered the closed-off area to pass slower traffic in front of them. The victim, an employee of Windsor Fuel, had no time to react before being struck.

Officers involved in the investigation are looking for Nissan, likely a newer model, that is gray with significant damage to the windshield, right front-side of the car, and has a missing right-side mirror.

Research shows that over 14,000 people die each year as a result of hit-and-run accidents.

UPDATE: The deceased victim has been identified as Reedley resident Regan Johnson, 24. Police have arrested Fresno resident Alyssa Marie Villanueva, 26, in connection with the incident.

An anonymous tip led police to Ms. Villanueva after observing her 2007 Nissan Altima, which matched the suspect vehicle description.

**Prayers ** to both families involved in this tragedy… I see both sides but Iam a friend of Alyssa and she was a loving and fun young lady I know she didn’t mean for this to happen!!!… She was careless about the drinking and just wanted to have fun not thinking about the consequences…. but that doesn’t mean she should spend life in prison.. everyone makes mistakes this was quite a big one but she is one of the most beautiful person on earth inside & out… Alyssa is not a bad person… What she did was… but only god can judge her no one else… No one knows what’s instore for them!!!… I pray for her and her family and her beautiful Daughter!!!… I LOVE YOU ALYSSA VILLANUEVA STAY STRONG GIRL!!

I believe that drinking and driving is just one of the most dangerous things u can do in life, not only are u risking your own life, but as in this case the life of another innocent human being. It takes only one small mistake to ruin ur own life. What I don’t understand is why would this person leave the scene and then attempt to cover it up?? And if she was driving on a suspended license or already had a previous dui, then why take the chance and drive while intoxicated again??
