Riverside County, California — June 2, 2012

Police say a trucker was killed Saturday when his semi crashed and caught fire near Oasis.

CalFire reports that the trucker, 52, of Tulare, was behind the wheel of a semi as it traveled along California State Route 86. As the truck approached 81st Avenue, around 12:05 a.m., it crashed, eventually coming to rest near the median.

The impact threw the driver from the semi and caused it to ignite, which lit the hay bales it was hauling. Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save the truckers.

It is unclear whether anyone else was hurt or any other vehicles involved.

The United States Department of Transportation reports that fatal accidents involving semis and other large trucks have fallen from 5,200 in 2005 to 3,200 in 2009.

I was told the first 911 call at 12:04 a. m. reported an explosion before the crash. The driver had just recently married a woman from Illinois that is on the DHS no fly list for terrorists. She has listed a photo on a flickr site of a burned up car as her favorite photo. If anyone out there knows anything please post it here. Thank you.
