Police say a traveler died Sunday during a wrong-way crash in the Folsom area.
According to officers with the Folsom Police Department, an unidentified motorist was behind the wheel of vehicle as it traveled south along Blue Ravine Road. Around mid-day, the vehicle was passing between Crossing Way and Riley Street when the driver observed a northbound vehicle cross into oncoming traffic.
The two vehicles collided, killing one occupant of the southbound vehicle and injuring two others. Paramedics presumably treated them.
Meanwhile, the driver of the northbound vehicle was also injured and received treatment. None of those involved has been identified.
Witnesses have been asked to call (916) 351-3553 with any additional information. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the number of fatalities along America’s roadways declined in 2010 for the fifth-straight year. The total number of highway deaths last year was 32,788, down 3 percent over 2009.
UPDATE: Authorities say a northbound Honda Odyssey minivan veered over the median and hit a southbound black Toyota Celica. The Celica’s driver suffered fatal injuries, while an adult passenger and a child in the car were hospitalized.
The lone occupant of the van was also hurt.
UPDATE: The deceased victim has been identified as 50-year-old Folsom resident Keven Jon Carmichael.
