Merced, California — February 17, 2012

A 33-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon when he crashed into a parked truck on 20th Street.

According to the Merced Police Department, 33-year-old Bee Xiong was driving his motorcycle east on East 20th Street when he suddenly accelerated. While traveling about 75 miles per hour he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the back end of a parked truck. Mr. Xiong was thrown 50 yards from his motorcycle.

Mr. Xiong was declared dead at the scene.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were 4,778 fatalities as a result of collisions involving motorcycles in the United States in 2006.
