Camarillo, California – January 25, 2012
A vehicle struck and injured a woman walking with her two children Wednesday morning.
According to the Camarillo Police Department, 29-year-old Nelly Ruelasvela was pushing her 3-month-old and 20-month-old children in a stroller on Carmen Drive when she began to cross East Las Posas Road. About 8:15 a.m. in the crosswalk she was hit by a 2009 Honda Odyssey driven by 37-year-old Christopher Rowland as he made a left turn from Glenbrook Avenue.
Ms. Ruelasvela was hospitalized at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital for medical attention to injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. Her children were also hospitalized as precautionary measure.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were 4,778 fatalities as a result of collisions involving motorcycles in the United States in 2006.
