Phelan, California – January 11, 2012

Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a high-speed rollover accident at a Phelan intersection.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Sean Ratliff of Phelan was driving a 1994 Toyota pickup truck at speeds up to 100 miles per hour when he came near the intersection Gitano Road and Duncan Road. About 2:45 p.m. the truck went onto the shoulder and crashed into a dirt berm and wooden post. Mr. Ratliff managed to bring the pickup truck on to the road, but the pickup truck overturned. Mr. Ratliff was partially ejected from the truck.

Mr. Ratliff, who was not wearing at seatbelt at the time of the crash, was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center for medical attention to major injuries, including head trauma. His passenger sustained minor injuries, and was wearing a seatbelt.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding vehicles contribute to 93 fatal traffic accidents every day.

    Sean is doing a lot better and is scheduled for his first reconstructive surgery for his face next week.
