Malibu, California – December 29, 2011

A Simi Valley woman was killed and a Camarillo man was seriously injured after a head-on collision Thursday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 48-year-old Lyssa M. Hand of Simi Valley was driving a Ford Expedition south on Malibu Canyon Road when she strayed into northbound traffic on a curve. She was north of Piuma Road when she crashed head-on into a pickup truck driven by 47-year-old Keith W. Imrie of Camarillo about 10 a.m. The impact caused the SUV to spin, and the truck overturned.

Ms. Hand was transported to West Hills Hospital for medical attention to critical injuries. She died in the hospital. Mr. Imrie was transported to the University of California – Los Angeles Medical Center for medical attention to major injuries.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
