Los Angeles, California – January 3, 2012

A Los Angeles stand-up comedian was killed and his friend injured in a hit-and-run collision caused by a drunken driver early Monday.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a vehicle was traveling when it was struck by a 21-year-old man about 12:35 a.m. at Argyle Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard. The driver fled the scene and collided with stand-up comedians Josh A. Meyers and Angelo Bowers at Vine Street and Yucca Street about 12:40 a.m.

Both drivers in the second collision suffered serious injuries. Mr. Bowers was the passenger in Mr. Meyers’s vehicle. He died in the hospital.

The 21-year-old man will be booked and arrested after he is released from the hospital. He was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nearly 300 people are killed in hit-and-run accidents in California each year.
