Fallbrook, California – December 7, 2011

A pickup truck hit a motorcycle on South Mission Road leaving the two riders injured after the suspected DUI crash.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 57-year-old Fallbrook resident Randall Arnold was driving a 1997 Mazda B2300 north on South Mission Road when he made a left turn onto Almond Street. He did not yield to traffic and pulled into the path of 24-year-old Fallbrook resident Stuart Lessig and 24-year-old Fallbrook resident Elizabeth Lessig on a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle. The vehicles collided about 6:35 p.m. causing the riders to be thrown from the motorcycle.

Mr. and Mrs. Lessig suffered major injuries and were transported to Palomar Medical Center. Mr. Arnold was also taken to Palomar Medical Center for medical attention to minor injuries.

Mr. Arnold was then booked on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were 4,778 fatalities as a result of collisions involving motorcycles in California in 2006.
