Napa, California – November 7, 2011

A Napa man was critically injured Monday afternoon when a drunken driver’s SUV rolled onto his convertible.

According to the Napa Police Department, 38-year-old Redwood City resident Zembya Matamoros drove an SUV on California Route 29. About 6:35 p.m. the SUV rolled onto a convertible Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by 32-year-old Napa resident Marco A. Navarrette. The crash occurred at the intersection with Salvador Avenue.

Mr. Navarrette was taken to the Intensive Care Unit at Queen of the Valley Medical Center. He suffered major internal injuries and a skull fracture. He was listed in critical condition, but is now listed in stable condition. Miami resident 37-year-old Evan Soriano was in the SUV with Ms. Matamoros. He was transported to the hospital as well, but is not believed to be injured.

Ms. Matamoros was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.

According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, 203,866 suspects were arrested on suspicion of DUI in 2007.
