Hayward, California – October 22, 2011

A multiple-vehicle wreck on Interstate 880 killed a woman from Fremont early Saturday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Malika Cade, 20, of Fremont was driving on Interstate 880. About 2:05 a.m. she was involved in a collision with several other vehicles. The accident occurred north of California Route 92.

Multiple injuries were reported as a result of this collision. Ms. Cade was declared dead at the scene.

A poll from Consumer reports indicates that 63 percent of young people admit to driving while using a mobile phone and 30 percent admit to texting. The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that almost 5,500 people were killed in distracted driving crashes in 2009.
