Placer County, California – October 21, 2011
Three people were killed and two others were injured in a suspected DUI crash caused by a teenage boy Thursday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Meadow Vista boy drove a 1997 Subaru Outback on Applegate Road. North of Boole Road the boy did not properly navigate a curve. The vehicle left the road and smashed into a tree about 7:30 p.m. A 21-year-old Auburn man was thrown from the vehicle.
The Auburn man was flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for medical attention to his serious injuries. He died in the hospital.
Meadow Vista residents 21-year-old Lukas Warren and 31-year-old Daniel Silverman were declared dead at the scene.
A 17-year-old Eugene, Oregon, girl suffered moderate injuries. She was also taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
The driver was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center for medical attention to his minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and felony vehicular manslaughter. He was booked into Placer County Juvenile Detention Center.
Drugs and alcohol are believed to be factors in this wreck. Seat belts not being worn played a role in the fatalities.
