Boulder Creek, California – October 18, 2011

An off-road crash caused by a suspected drunken driver injured three people and led to the arrest of a Felton woman Monday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Brittany Beus of Felton drove a 1991 Honda Civic on Empire Grade Road. She was south of Jamison Creek Road when the car went off the road and rolled down an embankment. It came to rest on its roof about 7 p.m. One passenger had to be cut free from the back seat.

The 24-year-old man from Boulder Creek who was cut free from the vehicle suffered major injuries. The 20-year-old Boulder Creek man in the front seat and Ms. Beus were also hurt. They were all hospitalized for their injuries.

Ms. Beus was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, 203,866 suspects were arrested on suspicion of DUI in 2007.
