San Diego, California – September 27, 2011
A rollover crash on Interstate 8 caused a fiery scene that left a passenger injured early Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a man drove a 1988 BMW east on Interstate 8. He exited on the ramp to Mission Gorge Road and Fairmount Avenue about 1:10 a.m. On the exit ramp the car rolled onto its side and burst into flame.
The driver and his male passenger managed to climb out of the car. The driver was not hurt. His passenger was hospitalized with minor injuries.
The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
