A pregnant woman was injured Sunday evening when a drunk bicyclist knocked her down.
According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, Aaron D. Shaffer, 32, of Santa Cruz was intoxicated Sunday when he rode his bicycle about 20 miles per hour. On a sidewalk on Riverside Avenue he struck a 31-year-old pregnant woman from Monterey County as she exited a store in the 100 block. The woman, who is several months pregnant, was knocked to the ground. She hit her head and was rendered unconscious about 6:50 p.m.
The woman was hospitalized for moderate injuries.
Mr. Shaffer’s blood-alcohol level registered nearly four times over the legal limit. He was arrested for riding a bicycle while intoxicated and causing an injury accident.
