Duarte, California – September 19, 2011
A man was arrested Friday night after a collision that killed a woman from Burbank.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, 30-year-old Duarte resident William Segura drove east on Huntington Drive. He was traveling about 90 miles per hour when he crashed into 43-year-old Burbank resident Lisa Mireles in an SUV. The crashed occurred about 11 p.m. The impact forced the SUV off the road. It smashed into a tree.
Ms. Mireles was declared dead at the scene. Mr. Segura suffered minor injuries. He ran from the scene of the crash.
He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. He was held at the Temple station jail with bail set at $100,000.
According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, alcohol was a factor in 1,489 traffic fatalities in 2007.
