San Francisco, California – September 10, 2011

Saturday afternoon a pedestrian was killed when he was a struck by a train.

According to the San Francisco Coroner’s office, a train traveling south in San Francisco was near the bridge at Jerrold Avenue. About 5:35 p.m. the train hit a man.

The man was declared dead at the scene. This was Caltrain’s 13th death of the year.

The Federal Railroad Administration reports that California had the most pedestrian fatalities caused by trains in 2009. California had almost double the number two state of Illinois with 65 deaths in 2009.
