Mendota, California – September 2, 2011
A semi truck and a sport-utility vehicle collided Friday morning killing three people and injuring five others.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Suburban traveled west on Belmont Avenue. A semi was traveling east on the same road. About 6 a.m. the two vehicles collided forcing the Suburban off of the road where it crashed into a pistachio orchard near South Lyon Avenue.
There were eight people in the SUV. Three people died in the crash. Five people suffered injuries.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the semi did not stop after the crash.
