Santa Rosa, California – August 19, 2011
Thursday evening a boy was hit by vehicle while walking with his parents resulting in the boy’s death Friday.
According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, a boy, 4, and his family walked across West Ninth Street in the crosswalk at Rockwell Place about 6 p.m. A silver Volvo struck the boy causing life-threatening injuries.
The driver sped away, but was scene by someone listening to police radio traffic. The listener called in the vehicle to the police, arrested the man with the Volvo. The man arrested was 22-year-old Marcos L. Garcia of Santa Rosa. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail with his bail set at $500,000. Mr. Garcia does not hold a driver’s license. He’s been arrested twice previously for driving without a license.
The 4-year-old boy was taken to Children’s Hospital Oakland. He fell victim to his injuries Friday morning when he died.

UPDATE: According to the Sonoma County prosecutors Marcos L. Garcia was charged with two misdemeanors, vehicular manslaughter, driving without a valid license and felony hit-and-run in conjunction with this incident.
The 4-year-old boy who was killed in this incident has been identified as Santa Rosa resident Christopher “Buddy” Rowe.
