Ivanhoe, California – July 20, 2011

One motorist’s failure to stop at an intersection sent one woman to the hospital with serious injuries Tuesday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 53-year-old Farmersville resident Silvia De Sanchez drove a Buick Century north on Road 132. At the intersection of Road 132 and Avenue 336 19-year-old Visalia resident Joshua Labogin did not stop at a designated stop sign. In a Jeep Cherokee he crashed into the side of the Buick.

Ms. De Sanchez was flown to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Mesquite, Nevada, resident Teresa Mendoza, 49, was in the car with Ms. De Sanchez and suffered minor injuries.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
