Oxnard, California – June 19, 2011
A street race on Camino del Sol in Oxnard resulted in the arrest of a man from Oxnard.
The Oxnard Police Department arrested 28-year-old Samuel Mata of Oxnard after he and another driver raced their Corvettes on Camino del Sol. Mr. Mata crashed into a sport utility vehicle and another car when he lost control of his Corvette.
The force the crash flipped the GMC sport utility vehicle. The driver of the sport utility vehicle had to be freed from the rolled vehicle. The exact location of this accident has not been released.
Two people from the other vehicles were moderately injured and transported to a hospital, according to the Oxnard Fire Department.
Mr. Mata was arrested on suspicion of street racing and felony driving under the influence. The driver of the other Corvette fled from the scene.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration cited 135 fatalities as a result of street racing in 2001, with over 800 citations for illegal street racing California alone.
