Lompoc, California — May 13, 2011

Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed at Lompoc intersection on Friday.

The Lompoc Police Department reports that Lompoc resident Rebecca Vegas, 56, was walking near the intersection of J Street and California State Route 246 (West Ocean Avenue) around 8:40 p.m. Although the circumstances surrounding the crash are not clear, investigators believe Lacey Strange, 18, struck and killed Ms. Vegas with her vehicle.

Ms. Strange was questioned by officers at the scene, who found no evidence of drugs or alcohol impairment. The crash remains under investigation.
