Long Beach, California — May 9, 2011
Police say a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck along Long Beach Boulevard near Scherer Park on Monday left the rider dead.
The Long Beach Police Department reports that Norwalk resident Josue Corado, 27, was traveling northbound along Long Beach Boulevard on a 1999 Yamaha bike around 9:05 p.m. Meanwhile, Long Beach resident Josue Avalos, 24, was traveling south on North Long Beach Boulevard in a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto East Home Street.
Mr. Avalos crossed into the path of Mr. Corado’s motorcycle and the two vehicles collided, ejecting the rider five yards. Paramedics transported Mr. Corado to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to revive him.
It is unclear whether Mr. Avalos was injured in the crash. Eyewitnesses have been asked to call (562) 570-7355.
In California, all riders are required to wear helmets when on a motorcycle or any motorized scooter.
