Victorville, California — April 24, 2011

Officials say one motorist died and another is in critical condition after a collision along D Street, near Forrest Park, in Victorville on Sunday left a vehicle inverted.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department reports that two vehicles collided near the intersection of Interstate 15 and D Street shortly after 7:40 p.m. The force of the impact left one of the vehicles upside-down.

Paramedics arrived on scene and took one motorist to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead five hours after the crash. Another was taken to Victor Valley Community Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.

UPDATE: The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased victim as an Oro Grande man, Charles Ray Seals, 61. Police say his Chrysler Sebring sedan was swerving back and forth between traffic when he was struck from behind by a red GMC pickup truck.
