Riverside County, California — April 8, 2011

Officials say a collision between a passenger car and a delivery truck in the Crestmore area on Friday has left one person dead.

The Riverside County Fire Department reports that a green Honda Accord sedan was traveling near the intersection of Market Street and Agua Mansa Road, near Avalon Park, north of California State Route 60, shortly after 2:20 p.m. For unknown reasons, the Accord collided with a large delivery truck carrying Arrowhead Water.

Investigators say one traveler suffered fatal injuries in the crash. It is unclear whether the victim was pronounced dead at the scene or taken to a nearby hospital first.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
