Torrance, California — April 11, 2011
Police say two motorists were hospitalized after a crash with entrapment near Victor Elementary School in Torrance on Monday.
The Torrance Police Department reports that a man was driving westbound along Spencer Street around 8:25 a.m. when he veered into opposing traffic near Anza Avenue. Investigators say the man struck a second vehicle, heading east.
Police say the second vehicle continued forward, striking a vehicle parked nearby. The impact pinned both drivers inside the wreckage of their vehicles, forcing firefighters to use hydraulic extrication tools to free them.
Paramedics transported both motorists to County Harbor University of California Los Angeles Medical Center for treatment. The crash remains under investigation.
The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
