Bay Point, California — April 7, 2011

Police say a collision along Port Chicago Highway, north of California State Route 4, in Bay Point on Thursday left one person injured.

The California Highway Patrol reports that two vehicles crashed along Port Chicago Highway near Lynbrook Street, west of Lynbrook Park, shortly after 6 p.m. Although the circumstances surrounding the collision could not be confirmed, one account suggested that a vehicle struck a street light or utility pole.

Paramedics transported the injured traveler to Walnut Creek’s Jon Muir Medical Center. Police shut down a stretch of roadway for roughly an hour as they conducted an investigation, cleared wreckage and treated the injured.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
