Sunol, California — April 3, 2011

Police say a toddler emerged unhurt from a rollover crash along Interstate 680 near Sunol that injured two adults.

The California Highway Patrol reports that a woman, 38, was driving south along I-680, near Pleasanton, in a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser shortly after 5 p.m. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons, causing it to leave the roadway and flip multiple times.

Investigators say the motorist broke her wrist. A man also traveling in the vehicle, 44, was left pinned inside the wreckage and injured. Paramedics transported both adults to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.

The child, 2, was restrained by a child safety seat and unhurt.

In 2009, the California Highway Patrol issued more than 16,000 citations to parents, guardians or drivers who failed to properly secure children inside the vehicle. A recent Safe Kids study found that 84 percent of car seats were not installed properly.
