Police say a motorcyclist from Oceanside was killed Monday when he crashed on a rain-soaked stretch of Interstate 805, near Vista Balboa Center, in San Diego.
The California Highway Patrol reports that 61-year-old Oceanside resident Paul Allen Palika was riding southbound on I-805, near Exit 21 (Balboa Avenue), Monday morning. Around 6 a.m. a gray Lexus sport-utility vehicle traveling ahead of Mr. Palika, lost control and begin to spin.
Investigators say Mr. Palika could not avoid the SUV and hit the left side, ejecting him from the BMW bike and onto the roadway. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police shut down traffic along I-805 until after 8 a.m., advising motorists to instead use California State Route 52.
