Hesperia, California — March 8, 2011

Police say a pedestrian was killed in a crash along Live Oak Street in Hesperia on Tuesday.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reports that 25-year-old Hesperia resident Gabriel Arias was walking along Live Oak Street, between Piedra Avenue and Quincy Avenue, around 8:30 p.m. when he was hit by a 1991 Ford Bronco sport-utility vehicle.

Mr. Arias was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were later identified by the San Bernardino Count Coroner’s Office.

 The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that a pedestrian dies in a U.S. traffic accident every 110 minutes and one is injured every nine minutes.
