Reseda, California — February 27, 2011

Police say an elderly pedestrian suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a car on Sunday near Reseda Park.

The Valley Traffic Division of the Los Angeles Police Department reports that Jafar Amirshahidi, 92, of Reseda, was walking near the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Victory Boulevard around 6 p.m. when he was struck by a dark sedan with four doors.

Paramedics were summoned to the scene and transported Mr. Amirshahidi to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver failed to stop at the scene and administer aid, so police are treating the incident as a hit and run.

Investigators say Mr. Amirshahidi was inside a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. The suspect vehicle was last seen heading northbound along Reseda Boulevard.

Eyewitnesses have been asked to call (818) 644-8116 or (800) 222-8477.
