Merced, California — February 11, 2011
Police say an unsafe left turn resulted in a collision along California State Route 140 in the Kadota/Bear Creek area west of Merced, leaving four travelers injured.
The Merced Police Department reports that a vehicle was headed east on California State Route 140 when the driver attempted to turn left onto northbound Kibby Road. Meanwhile, a second vehicle was headed westbound on California State Route 140 at an estimated 55 miles per hour.
The two vehicles collided, leaving the four occupants of the second vehicle injured, the driver most severely. Paramedics transported the driver by helicopter to Modesto’s Memorial Hospital. Three other occupants, meanwhile, were taken to a hospital in Merced.
Investigators say the driver of the first vehicle escaped injury.
