Buena Park, California — January 3, 2011

Police say an elderly woman died Monday morning when a crash caused her daughter’s car to strike her.

The Buena Park Police Department reports that Boon Soon Yang, 71, was waiting  to be picked up by her daughter outside the Harmony Park Senior Apartments, in the 7200 block of Melrose Street between Western Avenue and Knott Avenue. Ms. Yang’s daughter, 47-year-old Sung S. Lim of La Mirada, was attempting to turn left into the driveway when her black Audi A5 was struck by a westbound Honda Civic.

The force of the collision pushed the Audi up the curb and onto the sidewalk, where it struck Ms. Yang. She was transported to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.

Ms. Lim and the driver of the Civic, 19-year-old Priya D. Shah of Buena Park, escaped without injurey. The crash remains under investigation.
