Carson, California — December 17, 2010
Police say a motorist was seriously injured Friday morning when his car was struck from behind by another driver, forcing him into oncoming traffic.
The Carson Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reports that the suspect driver, 49, was traveling south on Main Street in a Toyota 4Runner sport-utility vehicle around 8:30 a.m. when he approached Carson Street. When a Nissan Sentra traveling in front of him slowed for traffic, the suspect failed to reduce speed in time, striking the Sentra from behind and side-swiping another vehicle.
The force of the collision pushed the Sentra through the intersection and into two other vehicles. The driver of the Nissan, a 21-year-old man, was transported to County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
The driver of the 4Runner, who police suspect was driving under the influence, was also taken to County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. None of the other occupants were seriously hurt.
None of the victims’ names were immediately available. Police shut down the intersection of Main and Carson streets for several hours.
