San Diego, California — November 18, 2010
Police say an elderly driver performed an unsafe lane change in front of a motorcyclist in Allied Gardens area of San Diego on Wednesday, causing him to crash.
The San Diego Police Department reports that the motorcyclist was traveling north on Waring Road around 4 p.m. when he approached Orcutt Avenue. Meanwhile, a 90-year-old woman behind the wheel of a Toyota turned left into oncoming traffic. The motorcyclist was unable to stop in time and struck the Toyota on its side.
The victim suffered a fractured pelvis, as well as a broken nose, and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators plan to follow-up with the Department of Motor Vehicles to determine whether the driver of the Toyota must submit to a driving test and written test in order to keep her license.
