Palm Desert, California — November 17, 2010

Police say a 10-year-old boy suffered two legs when he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike in Palm Desert.

The Palm Desert Police Department reports that the boy was wearing a helmet while riding around 5 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Avenue 42 and Washington Street when the crash occurred. Investigators say the circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear.

The boy was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with what police characterized as “major injuries,” including two broken legs.

Traffic was shut down along southbound lanes of Washington Street.
