Carlsbad, California — October 4, 2010
A woman was injured and a man arrested Monday after what police have characterized as a “ghost-riding” stunt.
The Carlsbad Police Department arrested Neil Tillman, 29, in connection with the crash, which happened around 4 a.m. Monday.
Police say Mr. Tillman intended to exit and then re-enter the moving car along Juniper Avenue near Garfield Street while his wife, Melanie, and a friend rode on top. But when he climbed out, the car crashed into a parked vehicle, throwing the friend to the ground and causing a head injury.
The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment, although the exact nature of her injuries and her current condition unknown.
Mr. Tillman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and his wife on suspicion of public intoxication. He scored a 0.07 or 0.08 blood-alcohol content during a police test roughly an hour after the crash.
UPDATE: Tilman has pleaded guilty to felony drunk-driving charges in connection with the “ghost-riding” crash.
