Long Beach, California — September 25, 2010
A motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday after a wrong-way crash along the Long Beach (710) Freeway left two people critically injured.
Around 6:30 p.m., the Long Beach Fire Department reports that a van driven by a 23-year-old entered the freeway from Anaheim Street travling north in a southbound lane. The van collided with a sport-utility vehicle driven by a 39-year-old man, causing it to spin and strike two other vehicles.
Both drivers were hospitalized for treatment of multiple injuries, and three other occupants were also hurt.
Police shut down traffic along the 710 for roughly 90 minutes to investigate the crash and clear debris from the roadway.
