Two young girls are in critical condition after being struck and then dragged by a tow truck on Tuesday.
The girls’ mother was also injured in the accident, which took place around 12:30 p.m. in a crosswalk at Vineyard Avenue and Simon Way. Witnesses reported that the truck driven by Mehran Khamseh, 45, first struck the mother, then the two children, who were in a stroller. The truck then dragged the children a block before being flagged down by pedestrians.
All three victims are being treated at Ventura County Medical Center.
Oxnard police say Mr. Khamseh was under the influence of drugs at the time and will face criminal charges.
Authorities have shut down Vineyard from Forest Park Boulevard to Simon Way and have advised motorists to avoid the area, due to the massive crime scene.
